On 29 September a round-table discussion took place within the framework of project “Global Schools: EYD 2015 to Embed Global Learning in Primary Education” No. DCI-NSAED/2014/1#188450345#. The discussion was dedicated to the development of global education study materials which, at the final stage of project, will be delivered to the educational institutions of Rezekne Amalgamated Municipality and will be available in the Internet for downloading.
At the beginning of discussion Marina Sarigina ( Šarigina ), a teacher at Veremi Elementary School, and Jeleba Bazanova ( Jeļena Bažanova ), a teacher at Tiskadi Secondary School, shared with their impressions, conclusions and practical methods obtained, while they participated in the 10 th International Conference “Educating for Global Citizenship” that was held in Italy.
The participants of the discussion were educators from Rezekne Amalgamated Municipality, representatives of the Educational Department of Rezekne Amalgamated Municipality, project experts Ruta ( Rūta ) Kronberga and Biruta Rivane ( Rīvāne ), representatives of project management work group. Everybody present could express own view on what kind of study material he or she expects to obtain in order to use it for working with children to study issues of global education. There were expressed views both on the visual design of study materials and their content, as well as application for the organization of study process. Particular attention was paid to what should be included into such materials and what should be avoided, when striving to achieve the positive result, focusing on the target groups involved in the project – the preschool educational institutions and primary schools. There were different thoughts expressed, but, as a result of discussions, there was a solution found approved by majority of participants present – to develop the study material on the basis of five senses, to understand oneself in order to understand others better, to pass from the local to the global. We will see this global education study material after its development and approbation at the educational institutions of Rezekne Amalgamated Municipality. This very important work to be performed within the framework of the project is planned to carry out during the next year. Elita Opincane ( Opincāne ), specialist of educational work at ED, emphasized that the end result should not resemble a cake – it should be the material, which could be modified and used for all subjects, extracurricular events, as well as used when working with parents.
The process of the development of a study material is rather liable. We hope that by making joint creative actions we will achieve a significant result – a study material that will be available to everyone and useful for the education of children in global education!
